I was elected as Mid Suffolk District Councillor (Green Party) on 25th March 2010 and was re-elected, uncontested, in May 2011 and again in May 2015.  At the May 2019 elections, ward boundaries were changed and I was re-elected, this time jointly with fellow Green Councillor Keith Welham, to represent the new ward of Haughley, Stowupland and Wetherden (including Old Newton with Gipping and Dagworth).  I am one of 34 councillors in Mid Suffolk.

As a Green Party councillor I belong to the Green Party Group on the Council and there are twelve councillors in this group.  Since May 2018 I am the Leader of this group.  As the main opposition group we hold the Overview & Scrutiny Committee and one of our members chairs this.  I held this post from 2011 to 2018.

In September 2017 I was appointed to the Local Government Association’s Environment, Economy, Housing & Transport Board.  I sat in the Independent Group of councillors and was a Deputy Chair on that Board.  I stood down from this position in September 2019 following a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma (a bone marrow cancer) which has seriously limited the extent to which I can take on any more than my elected District Councillor role.

The views expressed on this blog are my own and do not represent those of Mid Suffolk District Council, the Local Government Association or the Green Party.
